ISBN: 0952321009. Pbk £12.00 A long version of the study of demand management in the 1950s which A E Holmans wrote for thee Treasury in 1964. He was given full access to all relevant Treasury papers, held discussions with officials and used the diaries of Sir Robert Hall. The result is an important and fascinating narrative of demand management policy from 1953-58. The author has revised his original account for this edition, providing additional detail and looking at subsequent events and analyses that are relevant to the interpretation of the period.
• Demand Management 1958-64, R F Bretherton CCBH, 1999. ISBN: 0952321025. Pbk £9.95 This volume is a Treasury Historical Document by Russell Bretherton, a sequel to A E Holman's study of demand management in the 1950s, also published in this series. Based on Treasury files and consultation with his colleagues in the Treasury, it offers a useful critique of demand management in the concluding years of Conservative Government to 1964, and reviews the handling of incomes policy and the reliability of Treasury forecasts.
• Diaries: The Radcliffe Committee and The Treasury 1961-64, Sir Alec Cairncross CCBH, 1999. ISBN: 095232103 3. Pbk £9.95. This volume is an edited text of the diaries of Sir Alec Cairncross, from the period when he served on the Radcliffe Committee on the Working of the Monetary System from 1957 to 1959 and from 1961 to 1964 when he was Economic Adviser to the Government.
